It is with great sorrow that I report the loss of another of our dear cousins. Donald Owen Thayer passed away on November 22, 2017 in Chehalis, WA. He was 86. He was one of my faithful Thayer Family Representatives in the line of Israel Thayer and Sally Linsey. I love him and his dear wife Betty and cherish the times we had together.
Don was born on March 1st, 1931. He was born in Gold Bar, WA to his parents, Jess and Edna (Sund) Thayer. He had one sibling, an older sister, Dorothy. Don and his family lived in Monroe, WA until the age of 8 before finally settling in what he would consider his childhood home town, Morton. Don spent his early years working in the woods as a logger. After finishing high school Don enlisted in the US Navy and spent 4 years serving his country. Upon his return from the service he resumed his passion of working in the woods.
In 1956, Don married his first wife, Shirley Hilton and they resided to Kosmos, WA. They had two children together (Rhonda and Brian). Don attended Bates Industrial Training School and began working for WIDCO in Centralia, WA.
In 1975, Don married his second wife, Betty Jean. Betty had 3 children, (Carrie, Jason, and Dana). Together Don and Betty raised Jason and Dana in Chehalis.
Don retired in 1988 from WIDCO after working 20 years as a shop boss. Don kept very busy during his nearly 30 years of retirement; Norwegian/Thayer family genealogy, spending time with his children and grandchildren by rafting the rivers of the Northwest, camping, hiking and boating the Puget Sound and Canadian waters. His adventurous spirit will live on in those that loved him dearly.
Don will be so missed! His lineage follows:
Donald Owen 11 (Jesse Lyman 10, Lyman Owen 9, William Lyman 8, Israel 7, Jonathan 6, Cornelius 5, Jonathan 4, Josiah 3, Ferdinando 2, Thomas 1) THAYER.
